DO YOU SMELL A RAT?
Of course no deal as dirty as the flip of the Autodie Fitness from Autodie to Rathbun to the Charlevoix Club is complete without a River Rat as the errand boy. Starring in this episode was River Rat Robert F. Wardrop II of Wardrop & Wardrop P.C. (pictured to the right soiling himself). Wardrop first represented Rathbun in the fitness center sale, and then -- in a marvel of flexibility that only a lawyer lacking the backbone of integrity can accomplish -- he switched sides to represent the Charlevoix Club.
For his efforts, it looked like Wardrop would get an interest in the B&G property the Charlevoix Club was supposed to redevelop for Butterworth Hospital. But nothing came of that when the front men for the Charlevoix Club either went on the lam or to prison. So, Wardrop lost out on getting any part of the B&G when Thomas Beckering of Pioneer Inc. was brought in to redevelop the joint as the Boardwalk, a.k.a. Toxic Towers.
Yes, folks, it's just one slimy deal after another here in River City, isn't it?
