BIG BIO-TECH HOO-HAW NEXT MONTH
The Western Michigan Business Review is hosting an economic forum on September 14th at the Van Andel Institute's auditorium. The subject is "Life Sciences and the Economy". No surprise now that bio-tech is the buzzword of the day. All the usual suspects will be there, including taxpayer-supported Grand Valley State University, Western Michigan University, The Right Place Program, and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation.
Oddly, the big construction firm Owen-Ames-Kimball will also be in attendance. Well, why not? If there's to be a big public-private partnership to boost bio-tech in River City, then like all public-private partnerships here, it will involve a lot of bricks and mortar to prove to the taxpayers they got something concrete for their dollars.
The VAI auditorium will be open for seating at 4:30 p.m. There's no admission, but you do have to register in advance. To do so, phone 1-800-644-2846 or sign up at www.mlive.com/mbusinessreview/forum.
