CORRECTION! CORRECTION! CORRECTION!
Last week, folks, I wrote about the City Commission approving the big tax subsidy for Amway-billionaire Rich DeVos's Marriot Hotel project in downtown. At the end of the article I slapped around the Grand Rapids Press for biased coverage of this issue:
The Press's editorial fawning over DeVos and his hotel project was bad enough, but did any of you even notice an article in that rag reporting the City Commission's approval of the tax subsidy? Like the way the Press evaded reporting the deep opposition to the hotel subsidy, it gave us no word of the Commission's final vote other than the standard public record notice tucked in with all the other notices issued by the surrounding suburbs and townships.
Press report Chris Knape alerted me to an error I made. On April 20th the Press did run a short article reporting the City Commission's approval of the tax subsidy for the DeVos project. I thank Chris for taking the time to advise me, and I apologize to the Press and to you, dear readers, for the mistake.
